Barber: No fear in players - and staff - being picked up

Icon

Brighton CEO Paul Barber says he has "no fear" in the Seagulls' best players - and potentially management - being picked off by bigger clubs given their consistent record of succession planning at the Amex Stadium.

In an exclusive interview with Your Site News, Barber said: "If we do well, it's because our players and coaches are doing well. And if that happens, they're going to be on someone else's radar.

"We've been through that loop many times before, but that's our model. We don't fear it - we have succession plans in place on and off the field."

Markanday: Solo goal made me feel like that kid at Spurs

 Your Site News' Dev Trehan:

Dilan Markanday said his solo stunner for Chesterfield earlier this month made him feel like the fearless kid who was once arguably Tottenham's best academy prospect.

Markanday, who became when he featured in a European game under Nuno Espirito Santo five years ago, rounded off the scoring in style in a recent 2-0 win for the Spireites against York City.

"I think it was in the 96th, 97th minute, it was late in the game, and I still had the fuel and the energy to keep going" Markanday told Your Site News.

"My eyes lit up as soon as I got one-vs-one with the defender - that's the situation I want to be in. I managed to get past him, and took on another player and hit it into the bottom corner.

"I was absolutely ecstatic when it went in. I actually felt like that sort of little kid again back at Tottenham, you know taking on players - and that's what has allowed me to have the career I've had. I felt really good in that moment.

"I just want to keep continuing to score goals, different types of goals and just enjoy my football with that 'childlike kid in a playground' sort of feeling where there's no fear, there's nothing to prove to anyone, just going out there and enjoying your football."

Savage: Judge my Posh team when we start playing football

Icon

Robbie Savage has been confirmed as the new manager of League One strugglers Peterborough.

Savage has left his role at National League side Forest Green Rovers and signed a long-term contract at Posh, who are currently second from bottom of the table and sacked Luke Williams last month.

His appointment marks his first Football League role since retiring as a player in 2011, and Savage said he is relishing the opportunity to prove any doubters wrong.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion but all I want is a chance. I've done it all my life," Savage told a press conference.

"When I was released by Manchester United I was told I wasn't good enough, when I moved to Leicester I wasn't in the team and had to battle. Nobody's given me anything in this world, I've earned it and I've worked hard for it.

"Judge me when we start playing football - that's what I love. I'm passionate and emotional and I just want to watch this young team give me everything, play that explosive style of football."
